Garnet is created by mother nature in almost every color, the most popular being a deep shade of red. It's a fairly hard and durable gemstone rating at a 6.5-7.5 on the MOH'S scale. It's mined in many places, including Brazil, Russia, Southern Africa and Thailand. Garnet has been used to adorn for thousands of years and can be dated back to the ancient Egyptians.

A few of my favorites from 2016.
As you may know my husband and I are expecting our first child this year. We will welcome Miss Lula Quinn into our lives in mid February. I'll be finishing up custom projects and loose ends before her arrival and then take a month or two away from my bench to adjust to my new role as a mom. I hope you will continue to follow along with me through this new and exciting adventure. This Spring when things have settled down I'll be back at my bench and back to work in my brand new studio space filled with new inspiration and lots of new work. Until then all of the pieces on my website are made and ready to ship if you find yourself in need of a jewelry fix.

I got married last October to the man of my dreams and changed my last name from Lime to Carder. When I took my husband's last name I knew it was time to update my brand name. As a designer and maker of fine jewelry, my personal and professional life continue to impact my work. Katie Carder Fine Jewelry is the product of my life.

The reason why I love jewelry, make jewelry and collect and re-store estate jewelry

I love this picture of my Mom and my Grandma, Norma Louise! My Grandma had quite the collection of jewelry, fine and costume and she would let me play dress up and deck myself out in her fashionable clothes and jewels.
I remember going through all of her jewelry boxes when I was little. I would organize them and make sure to touch every single earring, necklace and ring and think how beautiful everything was.
I inherited lots of lovely pieces from my Grandma that mean a lot to me and I credit her and my Uncle for my love of jewelry and all things sparkly.
Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing some of my favorite pieces from my personal collection.
First up, this awesome and totally unique Diamond statement ring. This is by far my favorite and a total show stopper! I'm pretty sure my Grandma had this one custom made for her by her jeweler in Florida.
I've found some great pieces on my latest treasure hunts. The rings pictured below are all fixed up and like new again and for sale in my shop.

/I will be tying the knot with the love of my life the weekend of October 2nd. MKL studio will be closed next week from 9/28th thru October 5th so I can finish all the last minute planning and thoroughly enjoy this wonderful moment in my life. Making our wedding bands
/A few nights ago I taught my fiance, Jeremy how to make a ring. We then proceeded to make one another's wedding bands together. What a special and meaningful moment! I can't wait to place the ring I made on his finger and wear the rings (I asked for two delicate stacking rings) that he made just for me for the rest of my life!
So many wedding bands...
/I've been making lots and lots of wedding bands lately! It's wonderful because I have a daily reminder while I'm working away in my studio that there is so much love in this world.
Making wedding rings has suddenly taken on a whole new realm of emotions for me. As I prepare for my own wedding (about a month away now!) I have this new connection to wedding jewelry. I've always enjoyed making these special pieces of jewelry for you all but it's different for me now. More meaningful.
